What about the breakfast?
I was looking for a different place to have breakfast while in Evansville. I found The Cross-Eyed Cricket on Main Street. I read a few reviews. Let me tell you that I had a great experience. Darla made me feel right at home and she was delightful, right there with coffee refills, pre-bussing and friendly conversation. Service A+. The food... Country Fried Steak and eggs, delicious A+. Lastly the location is close to the river and uniquely decorated with hardwood floors and an old time feel with the most unique hostess stand. Give them a try you won’t be disappointed.
MoreGreat cocktail. We were actually trying to get into a new place and they weren't open yet. So, we meet a local and she said I've never had a bad cocktail at Comfort. Spot on. Our server Adam recommended rhythm and booze, Nailed it! And Ma said the soup was really good.
MoreMe and my date went here for a prom dinner, and it was our first time. We absolutely loved it! The rustic feel of the restaurant was just what we were looking for, and I adored the mason jar drinking glasses. okay The servers and waitstaff made us feel extremely special, and the food was fantastic. Our waiter was always making sure everything was perfect. I cannot wait to go try their breakfast menu!
MoreThe food is always good and they have great portion sizes.
We came here for dinner Friday night. Service was ok. Food was decent. They were really busy so I’m thinking on weeknight would be better. Very friendly bartenders and waiters/waitresses. They have 4 levels to the restaurant. We sat downstairs in the bourbon bar area. Inside the restaurant is vey nicely decorated and very clean.
MoreWe went to dinner here yesterday. This was our first time ever eating at the Cross Eyed Cricket on Main Street, and let me just say, it was beyond my expectations! The food was amazing and the service was just as outstanding! I had the blackened salmon and my friend had the cowboy ribeye, cooked to perfection and served on a wooden platter. I would highly recommend this place to anyone! Amanda, our server, was so attentive and even gave us some extra strawberry butter to take home, which is so worth the extra calories for later. The manager, Steve, thanked us for our visit on our way out the door and took the extra time to explain the different amenities his restaurant had to offer. I have worked restaurant/bar for over 15 years, so I can be a bit of a critic sometimes, but I was very impressed with this place! Will most definitely make a return visit soon!
MoreThe atmosphere contemporary chic and very cool. The menu is extensive and features comfort foods and gourmet salads and appetizers. The bar downstairs offers a relaxing environment for dinner and drinks. Excited to eat on the balcony when the weather is warmer. The food and service was excellent.
MorePhenomenal food and our server was the best! Would recommend this place for sure!
MoreGreat food. Service slow. Appetizer was out before our drinks!
Service was great and the restaurant was clean. We got rolls complimentary that came with whipped strawberry butter. Delicious! The rest of the food was delicious, too!!
MoreI, like Great food and they have some of the best in Evansville In !!!!❤️🇺🇸✌️👍😎😋
MoreThe atmosphere is really nice and the people are great. But the best part is the food. Nice sized portions at a reasonable price. I'm from out of town and this was a great local spot to eat. I definitely recommend!
MoreThe food was awesome and the staff was excellent. We will definitely be going back.
MoreI have had a few different dishes here and I am always happy/surprised by the quality and portion sizes. I eat a lot but I am sure most people leave with to-go boxes. From chicken and waffles to wonderful pork chops there are several delicious options on the menu.
MoreI don't know if I'll be in Evansville again, but if I am, I will definitely pay another visit to COMFORT by the Cross-Eyed Cricket.I ate at several good restaurants while I was in Evansville for business. COMFORT by the Cross-Eyed Cricket was by far my favorite. I had the Hot Chicken with a side of fried cabbage. The Hot Chicken was delicious and so moist that it nearly fell of the bone. It was some of the best prepared fried chicken I've ever had and I have eaten at some REALLY good fried chicken places. The fried cabbage was also a good surprise. It is long, shredded cabbage that is seared in a pan. It was delicious!COMFORT by the Cross-Eyed Cricket also has a great feel to eat. The entire staff was friendly and hospitable and the dining environment feels like home.If you can only eat at one place when you are visiting Evansville, make sure COMFORT by the Cross-Eyed Cricket is at the top of your list.
MoreFirst time visiting. Nice place with nice ambience low lighting. Friendly host and wait staff. Food menu had zero vegetarian options no vegan options. This made my experience difficult. Slow service considering there were only 8 patrons total and three tables. Food was good for my husband. Nothing spectacular about the food options. Regular meat joint options burgers chicken and such. Will try again if they ever decide to update to 2019 standards for vegetarians and vegans. Three stars for low food options and not enough service at the table.
MoreThis is the oldest building in Evansville, and has been beautifully renovated into a four level dining facility. The main floor is nicely decorated and serves good comfort food. It is a bit pricey for comfort food, but with the restaurant being downtown I would guess it’s on par with other similar downtown restaurants. The basement has been turned into a bourbon bar, and the second floor is a wine bar which is very new (they were adding to it as recently as last week). The second floor also had a very nice balcony. The third floor is a grand ballroom, but I did not get a chance to see it. The basement and second floor would both be great for rehearsal dinners, small receptions/company parties, etc. The manager was very helpful and will give you a tour with some history of the building if you like. Overall great experience!
MoreExcellent food. Great selection of comfort foods and breakfast items. We recommend the pork chops, the salads and chicken fried chicken. You get a salad and two sides with your entree so there's usually some to take home. Bru Burger had a 40 minute wait for our party of 8 but Comfort was only a short one block walk away and seated us immediately. The staff was friendly and very attentive. We finished our meal only 15 minutes after we would have been seated down the street. Comfort will be our first choice next time!
MoreNice downtown locale that serves up it's flagship fare with modern flare.Great southern sweet tea, as well.
MoreCool little spot. Everything we ordered was great. The staff is friendly and attentive. Menu items are a fun blend of comfort and health food. Reasonable prices. Great location and atmosphere.
MoreMy wife and I have been to COMFORT several times over the past 3 months. We love the food and we love the drinks. My wife almost always gets the Salmon and she often talks about it when we discuss where we want to eat for dinner. The only problem we run into is that the service sometimes feels subpar. We have had a great waitress, but we have also had some less knowledgeable and skillful servers. Overall, this place is great for dinner.
MoreOmg!!! We have been wanting to try this place since it opened, never got around to it till tonight... The atmosphere is so laid back, love the decor. I accidentally left my phone @ home or I would of taken pics of it all. Like a rustic elegant look. Our server was on point we ordered the fried pickles best ones I've tried by far & I've tried fried pickles every place that offers them. Fried chicken dinner was on point.. The fried cabbage was so amazing... We met David the new manager & he is pretty amazing as well.. Really makes you feel like you've been coming there to eat since day one. We will definitely be back. Got to check out the coffee & wine bar upstairs..
MoreCelebrated Valentine’s Day with their special couples only upstairs dinner. Everything was great. That is until Monday when I attempted to use my card I had used to pay for dinner. $162 meal with 25% tip rounded out to $200. Only find out they double billed me another $162. Now my account is overdrawn with fees due to someone who charged my card twice. Waiting to hear what they intend to do about it
MoreLove the atmosphere. Food is great too. Fairly fast lunch service. Downstairs has a cool speakeasy vibe. Service is efficient and food is consistently delicious.
MoreSo disappointed! We haven't been dinning in since covid but lately their food has been less than averge. My pancakes were grainy and soaked up all the syrup making them dry. The hashbrowns looked like potato soggy strings. We were so disappointed that we probably won't be back in awhile. There were way to many people hanging out in the front and it just didn't seem like they were taking precautions since the kitchen was packed with people. We take covid seriously and try to support places that take precautions.
MoreThe aroma outside the restaurant is what convinced us to go in and try it and I’m so glad we did! Everything from the service to the atmosphere was awesome. The restaurant is very very clean and decorated beautifully. Our server, Kelsey, was attentive and very friendly. The food was the best part. All of our meals were hot and delicious. I cannot honestly pick one thing out we didn’t like. Will definitely make this place a regular on our list.
MoreGood atmosphere, friendly staff, with a great breakfast menu at a reasonable price. The combos are hefty and fill you up. The waffle was amazing, the bacon perfectly cooked, and the eggs well scrambled. The strawberry butter didn’t do much for me personally. The service was prompt and the waiter checked in regularly.
MoreFood is great and environment is welcoming. Each floor has a unique and special feel to it.
MoreThe ambiance in the lower level Bourbon Room is perfect!
All around great experience. I've eaten here a few times for lunch and breakfast and am always very happy. Service is excellent and the staff is very attentive to our parties needs. Food is always spot on and the breakfast in particular reminded me of what my grandma used to make. I've only had positive and extremely positive experiences here. You won't be disappointed.
MoreAbsolutely delicious! Loved the atmosphere and the food! I had the country fried steak meal and everything was amazing! The outside was crispy and had a nice crunch, while the steak was very tender. Paired together very well. I also had mashed potatoes and fried okra as my side dishes. Both were very flavorful. My table also ordered the blue crab stuffed mushrooms and everyone thought they tasted great! Highly recommend this amazing restaurant!
MoreFood was great service was prompt , size of beer glass for price could really be better . But overall was good !
MoreAmazing start to our day ! ☕The bathrooms are really "cool man"
We were in town visiting and went there. It was some of the BEST food I've had in a restaurant in a looong time. I cant wait to go back. The owner and his son came out to make sure we enjoyed our food and were very nice and thoughtful. Thank y'all so much!!!
MoreThey have excellent customer service and are attentive and prompt. Their staff is very friendly and helpful and willing to go out of their way to accommodate your needs. Like going across the street to get you a special oat milk. Their food is delicious and well worth the delivery. Definitely come eat here.
MoreHoly shamoley. Good place. Go here. The strawberry butter for the rolls also changed my life. I got the most German thing you can get at this "American" restaurant. Dumplings, pan fried potatoes, and fried cabbage. Dang.
MoreI was there on a Monday afternoon and the place was quiet and clean. The wait staff were really nice. I had the bacon, lettuce, avocado, and tomato sandwich. It was pretty good!
MoreFood was great and service was excellent. Very large portions. Hope to visit again soon.
MoreMy wife and I went here for dinner. The restaurant was well put together design wise. Very nice decor. My wife had the fried chicken plate and I had the Philly cheese steak. Both were very good. The staff was prompt and helpful. A very positive experience.
MoreEvery time we eat here we fall in love with this place all over again. Whether it’s the chops, tomahawk steak, asparagus or corn bread or anything in between it’s always prepared perfectly and delicious!! Cross eyed cricket is quickly becoming our favorite place to eat! Leave the A1 on the table you won’t be needing it, top all that with their first class service and it’s no wonder why they have been in business for so long. Highly recommended!
MoreEver drive five hours for a Belgian Waffle and Mimosas?I did and it’s the best choice I’ve made in a decade.
MoreI don't think it's possible for there to be a more friendlier staff than here. At least 4 different people went out of their way to check in on me and all of them even thanked me for coming in. This service has been a hallmark of the original location and has certainly carried over to this location as well. Highly recommended and THANK YOU!!
MoreGreat food, great atmosphere, friendly staff and they offer some things on the menu not commonly found in this area.
MoreOur first time dining here and the experience was great! Our waitress was perfect, all smiles and helpful. Our Old Fashion was one of the best we’ve had since Tahoe. Kudos to the bartender! Our dinner was not rushed. We did make reservations and the Host as we walked in addressed us by name. The food was outstanding. We will definitely be back.
MoreAmazing. Just Amazing. Super affordable. $12 for a fried chicken diner!! Wonderful!! Super cute and i WILL be coming back. Many, many times❤️
MoreGreat food. Service a little slow, but took care of everything we needed.
Looking for a brunch spot? This is it. The food and service is phenomenal. Best Bloody Mary in town. Sitting outside on a Sunday morning while eating waffles and drinking mimosas... 11/10 would recommend. Family friendly, a plus.
MoreEnjoyed the Atmosphere, the service, and the food. I will say they need to work on the temperature of the food coming out hot. I hate lukewarm food. Overall the taste was good. A bit pricey... but still nice. The crab stuffed mushrooms are my all time favorite and the catfish was great.
MoreSuch a fun date night or out with friends atmosphere. Atlantic Cod was delicious. Great service. Can't wait to go back!
MoreSlow service. Our appetizer came late which may explain why the rest of our food was cold assuming they held up our meals so we could start the Fried Pickles (which were a large portion and delicious). My parents enjoyed their main dishes (country fried steak and chicken). My Mexican Cheesy Chicken was underwhelming--barely any flavor and the small bit of queso had solidified because it was on cold mashed potatoes. Creamed corn was amazing. This place has potential, but fell short.
